Social Meets, Hilary term 2012

The club meets in Oxford on Wednesday evenings; usually, anyway.

At some meetings there will be a short talk about caving, at others general chat, beer and socialising. These meetings are also where you sign up for Caving trips.

New members are always welcome. Contact anyone on the Committee or just turn up to a meeting. See also how to subscribe to the OUCC email lists.

* Events at St Edmund Hall are in the Pontigny Room or the Emden Room (ask the porters for directions).

** SRT stands for Single Rope Technique and is how cavers get up and down the vertical shafts in caves. If you want to go on caving weekends to Yorkshire and Derbyshire, SRT training is necessary because they have a lot of deep holes up there! Email victoria.lim@regents.ox.ac.uk  if you want more info or to book onto a training session.

*** Yes, this is as exciting as it sounds! Europe’s longest artificial cave (a title sought after more competitively than world’s tallest building) is in Hemel Hempstead a mere hourish away, and we are desperate to join the six-year-old-birthday-parties and pre-teens-who-love-“extreme”-sports to clamber inside! It’ll be like caving but better ‘cause there’re ball pools instead of water and little dog flap things to get out and apparently also, it’s really hot. Finally, caving without the cold and wet and mud. If only it wasn’t so small and dark it’d be perfect. Don’t ask me how the whole thing will work but it will and it will be the best thing to have come out of Hemel Hempstead since...well nothing much really ever has before...
