Dear all
A quick update on what's been happening since the last update.
Unfortunately, with so many people leaving in the middle of expedition, those of us left (numbering 4 on average) have rather had our work cut out with derigging, so not a lot else has been achieved; also, the weather turned bad on us. However, 2/7 has now been completely derigged, and those left out there have got a few days to do some shaft-bashing (although they're also going to have to spend a lot of time carrying gear down the hill).
Concerning next year, I very strongly feel that we should go back to 2/7, and push both upstream and downstream. I detect very little enthusiasm for Xitu, other than from Jo and Paul; if some old lags want to organize a nostalgia trip, then fair enough, but they should provide their own rope. Downstream 2/7 is the big prize, with another 500m depth to be found; the dig is remote and bound to be hard work, but I'm sure we're up to it. Upstream 2/7 is looking very interesting, and seems to be the key to understanding the hydrology of most of our area; it would provide a slightly easier and more pleasant alternative for the less masochistic and obsessed members of the expedition.
Concerning the possible Hilti capping to provide a short cut into GSP, I personally believe that it would be justifiable. It will make getting to the sharp end a little easier (although still not easy) without essentially changing the nature of the cave. However, I don't feel strongly about this, and it's good to see a debate going on.
I think we should have a meeting at the President's Invite to discuss these matters, and elect a leader.
