2nd week 21st October Wales Freshers' Day trip
For our first Freshers' day trip we're heading to South Wales Agen
Allwedd(Aggy) cave, one of the longest cave in the UK! There are lots of great
beginner trips in Aggy, we'll hopefully explore a number of classic,
freshers-friendly trips, which are all good fun with fantastic formations to
see. We'll be setting off on Saturday morning and come back in the evening, but
meeting up on Friday evening to choose and try on caving kit.

5th week 11th-12th November Mendip Freshers'
weekend, Wessex caving club
Our second Freshers' trip will also be
to Mendips, it really is a very good place to start caving. We'll be staying at
the Wessex, a very nice hut which is an easy walk from Swildons, Eastwater, and
Hunter's Hole(a good place for doing your first SRT trip), some of the Mendip
caves we visit most. It also has its own SRT tower, so we might get chance for a
little SRT practice too. If anyone is up for a challenge, I can see if I can get
us a permit for one of the less usual Mendip caves as well.

6th week 18th-19th November South Wales, Godre
Pentre caving hut
In 6th week, we'll be heading to the South Wales
Ogof Ffynnon Ddu — the deepest cave in the UK and the most popular destination
for beginner cavers! We will go explore the top and bottom entrances which are
pretty different in character but both are suitable for beginners. OFD and Aggy
are very different so if you can absolutely come on both Wales weekends. For
non-beginners, I will try to get a Dan-yr Ogof permit as well, which is a less
usual trip for OUCC.

7th week 25th-27th November, CHECC, location tbc.
Our last weekend of term will be the CHECC (Council of Higher Education
Caving Clubs) forum, which is where student caving clubs from all over the
country meet up to go caving and have a massive party! There are also lots of
games, competitions, and training sessions(survey, set, cave rescue etc.), it's
basically packed full of good things to do. The location is not finalised yet
but most likely to be in Yorkshire or Peak District. Both have a lot of fine
potholes for those familiar with SRT. If we are lucky, we might be able to
arrive in good time for Friday night's fancy dress fun.
