Going to the Dales? Going to Spain? Don't know the ropes ? - try SRT Training.
PLEASE help and volunteer to organise a weekend. If no-one organises the
weekends they won't happen.
There is a detailed crib sheet on the website telling you exactly how to
organise a weekend. TAKE A LOOK.
Other meets may be organised - please check at Wednesday meetings or via the OUCC mailing lists.
As usual details of the trips will be advertised closer in time. As a reminder: They will mostly be advertised on the oucc-all mailing list. So if you want to stay up to date, please sign up following the instructions on the website: http://www.oucc.org.uk/current/mailists.htm
3rd/4th May (1st week); 5th May is Bank Holiday. Pete & Fleur's Party at Bull Pot Farm Fleur and Pete celebrate that they've been together for 10 years now, and they invite all of OUCC to come to Bull Pot Farm in Yorkshire. There will be beer, there will be BBQ, there will be loads of fun and of course there will be caving!
(This is just a reminder - Fleur has already sent out an attendance spreadsheet in a previous email, so check your inbox!)
10th/11th May (2nd week) Mendips, Wessex Advanced SRT and rescue training with Tony Seddon
Charterhouse confirmed, others pending. The Mendips are more easy terrain if you are new to caving and don't have much experience. Most caves are fairly horizontal and easy, but they can also be quite tight and demanding, which is often rewarded by some spectacular decorations. In addition to caving, there will be a chance to learn or practice SRT at a tower built for exactly that purpose. And Tony Seddon from the Starless River volunteered to give us a helping hand and show us some advanced SRT tricks, which might come in handy some day!
Meet Leader for this trip will be Olaf Kähler, and will cost £40 for transport, accommodation and food.
24th/25th May (4th week) 26th May is Bank Holiday. Bull Pot Farm GG Winch Meet (all cavers welcome to visit Gaping Gill!) Expedition training weekend for Ario Caves Project
On this weekend, we are going to Yorkshire again. And we won't be the only ones. There is a big "Winch Meet" at Gaping Gill, where cavers set up a winch taking ordinary people into this magnificent cave. Also most of the "proper" caving routes will be pre-rigged for proper cavers to use, so this will be a great chance to explore this system in greater detail. If anyone is keen there will also be plenty of options in the Easegill system right at the doorstop of Bull Pot Farm where we will be staying.
Meet Leader for this trip will be Thomas Ka Leung, and will cost £40 for transport, accommodation and food.
7th/8th June (6th week) *to be confirmed* Derbyshire, TSG, Titan, Peak Cavern
We'll be heading to the Derbyshire Peak District, home to the largest underground pitch in the UK (141.5 m!). Still awaiting confirmation of accommodation and permits, but keep these dates in your diary!
The Meet Leader will be confirmed closer to the time, and the trip will cost £40 for transport, accommodation and food.
14th and/or 15th June (7th week) Daytrip (or weekend trip) to Llangattock Daren Cilau or Ogof Draenen
This one is intended as a daytrip, but if there is sufficient demand some of us could go ahead for camping and spend more time underground. Both Daren and Draenen are really worth it, and you can spend many hours in these huge systems. Daren starts with a 500m long entrance crawl that will take some time (but it's not really that difficult) and beyond you can get to the biggest cave passage in Britain. Draenen is currently the second longest cave in Britain with about 70km or 80km of convoluted passages. Both of them have spectacular calcite and gypsum formations and on either of the trips you'll have a good chance of seeing some incredible helictites and other decorations.
The Meet Leader will be confirmed closer to the time, and the trip will cost either £20 or £40 depending on whether a daytrip or weekend trip eventuates.
